Why did we choose the Kouma Mountain?
Located in an ideal, central point of the island between two major settlements, Skala and Kampos, the Kouma Mountain stands as a pivotal location accessible from a provincial road and equipped with essential infrastructure such as water, electricity, and accessibility routes. Entirely owned by the Municipality of Patmos, its ownership status is guaranteed.
This expansive hill offers the unique advantage of creating individual planting zones based on orientation, sunlight, and wind patterns. Nestled within the terrain lies an old stone quarry, poised for restoration and transformation into a simple open-air amphitheater, symbolizing the seamless integration of environmental and cultural development initiatives on the island.
Our intention is to create the appropriate conditions for the creation of an autonomous local ecosystem with multiple benefits both for the environment itself and for the inhabitants of the island.
A Transformative Gift for a Cascade of Benefits
A chain reaction of several benefits that one by one seem minor at this stage but, all together combined will eventually prove that a project like this, is the most beautiful gift that our generation can offer to the next ones.
Oxygen. Trees on the mountain generate oxygen and filter air pollutants, contributing to cleaner, fresher air for residents and visitors alike.
Water. Trees play a vital role in soil and water retention, which supports the growth and sustainability of the surrounding forest ecosystem.
Diversity. The restoration of existing terraces further enhances the mountain's ability to retain water and soil, bolstering environmental resilience and biodiversity.
Wildlife. As the ecosystem flourishes, it will attract a diverse array of wildlife, including birds, bees, and small animals, enriching the natural landscape.
Environment. Beyond ecological benefits, the mountain park provides a serene and tranquil space for relaxation and contemplation, enhancing the island's overall quality of life throughout the seasons.
